Introduction to Advertising

 1) What key conventions of print adverts can you find and what are the connotations or deeper meanings of each convention?


  • Pictures of product (skittles) to remind us the type of product it is. The image also reflects the phrase "taste the rainbow" as  skittles is colourful and each one of them have a different flavour.

  • The Logo  is bright and it is in the middle of the advert in white colour and the letter (i ) comes out of it a rainbow and the word skittles came from the British pub game of skittles , a bowling-like game with pins, because the small colourful candies resemble the pins or the casual fun of the game, evoking fun and casual pleasure with the famous taste of rainbow  The original game involves rolling a ball at nine pins, and the candy's name links to this tradition of playful activity
  • The Background features is a rainbow  this colours catches peoples attention and kids will love it because of the variety  of colours inside it 

  • The Slogan is written in the bottom that says (Taste the rainbow) that shows you how do you feel when you eat skittles as if you were eating the rainbow.
  • The Colour Scheme is a combination of many colours like red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple that makes the rainbow. 


2) What is the USP (unique selling point) for Skittles and how do you know? Does the advert use any of persuasive techniques listed above?

It is usually for small children because it has so many colours that will grab the children attention

3) An advert that creates a a strong emotional connection to the audience
